"Fat Tuesday" also known as Mardi Gras, is a celebration steeped with tradition and dates back thousands of years to pagan celebrations of spring and fertility, including the raucous Roman festivals of Saturnalia and Lupercalia

This special day before Ash Wednesday (which starts off the 40 days of Lent) is celebrated in many countries all over the world - mainly those with large Roman Catholic populations. New Orleans, Brazil, and Venice  play host to some of the holiday’s most famous public festivities!

"Une Bijou" (jewel) is the BLINGY version of our Mardi Gras RosaLei collection.
Here are Her sparkly features:

Decades
8mm - purple, green, gold Czech fire-polished glass beads

Paters
10mm - Black Czech fire-polished glass beads
10mm - Gold Flat Hematite bead

Focals
Fleur de Lis and Masquerade Mask

Here are a few fun facts I learned about the colors and symbols of Mardi Gras:

Purple - represents JUSTICE

Green - means FAITH

Gold - stands for POWER

Fleur de Lis - in French, fleur means "flower", and "lis" means lily. It is an important symbol for Mardi Gras because of the strong French influence in New Orleans.
On a separate note, I also found that Catholics have used the Fleur de Lis as an emblem representing the Virgin Mary. The symbol has also been used as a representation of the Trinity because of its three-petal design.

If you love all things sparkly and blingy, Un Bijou was created for you!

Honor this Lenten season with this magnificent RosaLei which can also be worn to celebrate the festivities of Mardi Gras or any time of the year!
